Here's something people don't expect about K-dramas: they're genuinely funny. Not just "smile politely" funny — laugh-out-loud, pause-the-episode-to-recover funny. Korean comedy timing is sharp, the physical comedy is fearless, and the very best comedy dramas balance the laughs with real heart so well that you'll be giggling one minute and wiping your eyes the next.

I've recommended K-dramas to a lot of friends over the years, and comedy is almost always where I tell nervous beginners to start. Nobody feels intimidated by something that's trying to make them laugh. And once a show has made you laugh, you trust it — so when it reaches for your heart later, you let it.

This is my honest list of the funniest, warmest, most re-watchable comedy K-dramas, with a note on where to stream each one and exactly who I'd hand it to. Skip to the mood guide at the bottom if you just want me to pick for you.

😂 A note on K-drama comedy

Pure comedy K-dramas are rare — most blend comedy with romance, family, or slice-of-life. That's a strength: the funniest K-dramas earn their emotional moments because they've made you love the characters first. Every drama here will make you laugh, but several will also move you.

What makes Korean comedy hit different

If your only reference for "comedy show" is a Western sitcom with a laugh track, Korean comedy will surprise you. There's rarely a studio audience and almost never canned laughter — the humour comes from character, situation, and timing instead. A single reaction shot held a beat too long, a perfectly deployed sound effect, an actor committing completely to something ridiculous: that's where the laughs live.

The other thing to know is that Korean comedy almost never stays in one lane. A drama will be labelled a comedy, but it's really a rom-com that's also about grief, or a workplace sitcom that's secretly about loneliness. I used to think that made them "not really comedies." Now I think it's the whole point — the jokes are funnier because the people telling them feel real, and the sad moments land harder because you've already been laughing with these characters for ten episodes. Keep that in mind as you read: every show here will make you laugh, but several of them will also quietly break your heart.

Strong Woman Do Bong-soon
힘쎈여자 도봉순 · 2017 · 16 episodes
Viki · NetflixComedy · Romance · Fantasy😂 Quirky

A petite young woman is born with superhuman strength — a hereditary gift passed down the women in her family. She gets hired as a bodyguard by a quirky gaming CEO, and chaos and romance follow. A fun, fizzy comedy with a genuinely original premise and a lovable lead.

Why watch it: The superhero-comedy mashup is delightful, and Park Bo-young is impossibly charming. Light, fun, and a little bit silly in the best way.
😂 #4
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
갯마을 차차차 · 2021 · 16 episodes
NetflixComedy · Romance · Slice of Life💛 Cosy

A big-city dentist moves to a small seaside village and clashes — then falls — for the village's charming jack-of-all-trades handyman. Warm, funny, and full of lovable side characters. The comedy comes from the gentle culture clash and the eccentric villagers.

Why watch it: A cosy, feel-good comedy-romance. The ensemble of village characters makes it feel like visiting a place you'd love to live.
😂 #5
Be Melodramatic
멜로가 체질 · 2019 · 16 episodes
VikiComedy · Slice of Life · Romance

Three women in their early thirties navigate work, love, grief, and friendship in Seoul. A whip-smart, witty comedy with razor-sharp dialogue and a very modern sensibility. Funnier and more honest than most K-dramas about adult life — a hidden gem.

Why watch it: If you like clever, dialogue-driven comedy about real adult friendships. Underrated and genuinely smart.
😂 #6
Once Again
한 번 다녀왔습니다 · 2020 · 100 episodes
NetflixFamily Comedy · Drama

A warm, funny family drama about four adult siblings, their parents, and the messy comedy of a big Korean family living under one roof. A "weekend drama" — longer and more relaxed — full of gentle humour and heart. Perfect comfort viewing you can dip in and out of.

Why watch it: If you want a long, cosy family comedy to live in for weeks. The family bickering and warmth feel wonderfully real.
😂 #7
What's Wrong with Secretary Kim
김비서가 왜 그럴까 · 2018 · 16 episodes
Viki · NetflixRom-Com · Office😂 Frothy

A gloriously vain corporate heir is thrown into crisis when his impossibly competent secretary of nine years announces she's quitting. The comedy comes from his bottomless self-regard colliding with her unbothered competence, and it is very funny. It's pure rom-com candyfloss — and sometimes that's exactly the dose you need.

Why watch it: The lightest, fluffiest pick on this list. Zero homework, maximum serotonin. Perfect for a tired weeknight when you want to switch your brain off.
😂 #8
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo
역도요정 김복주 · 2016 · 16 episodes
VikiComing-of-Age · Rom-Com · Sport💛 Wholesome

A university weightlifter and her childhood-friend-turned-swimmer fumble their way through first love, friendship, and figuring out who they are. It's a goofy, warm, deeply earnest college comedy with one of the most likeable lead performances you'll ever see. The humour is gentle and the secondhand embarrassment is real in the best way.

Why watch it: If you want comfort food in drama form. It's about being young and unsure, and it's impossible not to root for everyone in it.
😂 #9
Prison Playbook
슬기로운 감빵생활 · 2017 · 16 episodes
NetflixComedy · Drama😂 Surprising

A star baseball pitcher lands in prison right before signing with a major US team, and what could have been a grim story turns into one of the funniest, most humane ensemble comedies Korea has made. The inmates and guards become a found family, and the show finds enormous warmth and laughs in the unlikeliest setting. From the director who later made Hospital Playlist.

Why watch it: The "I can't believe a prison comedy is this charming" pick. Surprisingly tender, genuinely hilarious, and criminally underrated abroad.
😂 #10
Hospital Playlist
슬기로운 의사생활 · 2020 · 12 episodes
NetflixComedy · Medical · Slice of Life💛 Comfort

Five doctors who've been friends since medical school navigate their hospital, their patients, and their band practice. It's less a medical thriller than a hangout comedy with scrubs on — easy, funny, and so warm that millions of people adopted these five as their own friends. The humour is in the in-jokes and the rhythm of long friendship.

Why watch it: The ultimate cosy comfort watch. If you want a show to live inside for a few weeks, this is it. (Two seasons of it, even.)
😂 #11
Yumi's Cells
유미의 세포들 · 2021 · 14 episodes
VikiRom-Com · Animation Hybrid😂 Inventive

An ordinary office worker's love life is narrated by the cartoon "cells" inside her brain — the love cell, the anxiety cell, the hunger cell — all squabbling over what she should do. Based on a hit webtoon, it mixes live action with adorable animation and absolutely nails the comedy of overthinking every text message. Genuinely original and very sweet.

Why watch it: If you've ever had a tiny committee arguing in your head before you reply to a crush. The animation gimmick sounds odd and works beautifully.

Comedy K-dramas by mood

Still can't decide? Here's the cheat sheet I'd give you in person, sorted by what kind of evening you're having.

A few honourable mentions

This list could have been three times longer, so here are a handful more worth knowing about. Business Proposal (2022) is a deliberately over-the-top office rom-com that became a runaway Netflix hit — pure sugar, and proud of it. Doctor Slump (2024) is a gentle rivals-to-lovers comedy about two burned-out doctors learning to rest, with more warmth than its premise suggests. Welcome to Waikiki 2 brings back the chaotic guesthouse energy with a fresh cast if you want more of that flavour. And if you like your comedy a little weird, Behind Your Touch (2023) follows a small-town vet who can read minds by touching backsides — yes, really — and is gleefully silly. None quite cracked my main eleven, but any of them makes a great follow-up once you've worked through the list above.

Where to watch comedy K-dramas

Most of the shows here live on the big international platforms, but it's worth knowing the lay of the land before you start. Netflix has the deepest comedy catalogue and the slickest subtitles, and it's where you'll find Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Prison Playbook, Hospital Playlist and Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Viki (Rakuten Viki) is the K-drama specialist — it has older gems like Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo and Be Melodramatic that drift on and off other services, plus fan-powered subtitles in dozens of languages. A few titles also appear on Kocowa or Prime Video depending on your country.

One honest caveat: streaming rights shuffle constantly and vary by region, so a show that's on Netflix in Australia might be on Viki in the US. If something here isn't where I said it is, search the title in your own country's catalogue — it's usually findable somewhere, and the hunt is part of the K-drama life.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any pure comedy K-dramas with no romance or sad parts? Honestly, almost none — and that's by design. Welcome to Waikiki is about as close as it gets to wall-to-wall slapstick, but even it sneaks in real emotion. If you want zero feelings, Waikiki is your safest bet.

I'm brand new to K-dramas. Where do I actually start? Extraordinary Attorney Woo. It's funny, warm, easy to follow, only one season, and it became a global phenomenon for a reason. If you like it, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is the natural next step.

How long are these? I don't have time for 100 episodes. Most "comedy" K-dramas run 12–16 episodes of about 60–70 minutes — so a full series is a few weeks of casual evening watching, not a year of your life. Once Again is the outlier at 100 short weekend-drama episodes; treat that one as a comfort show to dip in and out of, not a binge.
